Growing up on wolf's milk

This morning, as I photographed the above title photo - on a fallen log, I couldn't help but smile at the irony.

These tiny, metallic pearl-like organisms are on decaying wood. They are teaching us to rethink our ideas about intelligence. Without a brain, neurons, or any processor, they solve complex math problems that challenge our best computers.
